Free and open source software for music creation exists. Let me show you how to get it, how to use it, and what to do next.
When it comes to recording, many people focus on software and tools, purchasing (or pirating) the latest software. This isn’t necessary because you have great software available for free that you can use to create music.
More important than software, however, is your hardware. It doesn’t matter if you have Pro Tools 10 if your hardware can’t run it.
Speaking of Pro Tools, do you really need all the features that it provides? Doubtful. Ardour, the FOSS (free and open source software) DAW is more than you really need. Trust me on this.
If you don’t want to make the jump to Linux, I will still cover some FOSS for music on Windows and OSX.
